Praise God this Thanksgiving

Ezra 3:11 says, “With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD.”

It is because God is worthy of our praise that we give Him our thanks. And we give Him our praise and thanks because He is our Creator and Redeemer. Without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5), but because He loves us with an everlasting love He has given us His power so that we “can do all things through Christ who strengthens” us (Philippians 4:13).

So, in this season of Thanksgiving I think it is appropriate that we take the time to praise our God and Savior. I thought the following acrostic of the word “praise” would be helpful in drawing our minds and hearts toward the only One who is truly worthy to “receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing” (Revelation 5:12).

We give our Thanks and Praise to God because He is…

Powerful –
Psalm 29:4 “The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.”
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Righteous –
Psalm 11:7 “For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.”
Revelation 16:5 “And I heard the angel of the waters saying: ‘You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things’.”

Awesome –
Psalm 47:2 “For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth.”

Infinite –
Psalm 147:5 “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.”

Strong –
Psalm 24:8 “Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.”
Second Corinthians 12:9 “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Eternal –
Psalm 90:2 “Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
